Call for Submissions

We are seeking pitches from writers and photographers for our travel guide platform launching in the new year. We're building a resource for vacation rental travelers who cook during their stays.

For Writers

We're interested in stories that celebrate local artisans and business, authentic travel experiences, and the joy of cooking wherever you are. Think: discovering a tiny cooperative grocery in coastal Oregon, mastering one-pot meals in an Airstream, or camping/outdoor cooking tips.

    • Profiles: Travelers who cook on vacation (their favorite grocery finds, cooking setups, memorable meals made in rental kitchens)

    • Recommended places: Farmers markets and independent grocery stores in vacation destinations

    • Practical how-tos: Easy vacation meal ideas, camping/outdoor cooking tips, travel-friendly snacks

    • Thoughtful essays: Reducing food waste while traveling, sustainable food choices on the road

    • Keep pitches brief (3-5 sentences) that tell us the story, not just the topic

    • Show us your voice—we want to hear your style

    • Tell us why you're the right person for this story.

    • Include 1-2 relevant writing samples with your pitch

  • $100-$200 per piece (500-800 words), depending on experience

Photographers

We're building a network of local photographers in key vacation destinations to photograph grocery stores, farmers markets, and food destinations for our curated directories.

We also welcome submissions of existing travel and food photography that captures Independent grocery stores and markets, Farmers markets and local food vendors, travel-friendly food and snack, outdoor activities Snack Breaks, and sustainable food practices on the road.

Rate: $150-$250 per assignment or photo package, depending on experience

To submit:

  • Send a brief introduction and link to your portfolio

  • Let us know your location and areas you can cover

  • For stock submissions: include sample images with brief descriptions

We'll respond to pitches within one week. If accepted, we'll discuss deadlines and specific angle before you write. Stories go through collaborative editing to match our platform's friendly, helpful tone.

Submit your pitch or portfolio to submissions@tinycupboards.com.
